Catalogue for 29th Sao Paolo Bienal featuring a profile of Grizedale Arts' commission of Jeremy Deller's work So Many Ways To Hurt You: The Life and Times of Adrian Street.
The story of the son of a Welsh coalmining family, who escaped from his industrial destiny by reinventing himself as an exuberant, glam-rock wrestler. Associations are drawn between the story of Adrian Street and that of John Ruskin. In the 19th century, in a fast urbanising England, the writer created aers and crafts schools, called Mechanics Institutes, to teach factory workers how to read and write and help them expand their minds.
