TVA stands for Tennessee Valley Authority—the largest and most successful planning scheme in the world. Under Mr. Roosevelt's New Deal the Tennessee Valley—an area about the size of England—was replanned and turned from one of America's most distressed regions into one of life and prosperity. Dams on a gigantic scale control the water, and farms, industries, national parks, holiday centres, have sprung up everywhere and flourish.
