A simple, flat-roofed 3m x 3m structure made as a shoot location when we were working with Laure Prouvost on her Turner Prize-winning show, Wantee. Laure painted the walls, filmed the stream flowing below through a hole in the floor and generally had fun in there. The Coniston New Mechanics Youth Club worked with us to build the structure and went on to collaborate closely with Laure on other aspects of her project, travelling to Derry to work at her exhibition preview there.
Built from SIPs panels and clad in local larch, the structure has become an off grid working Pottery since then, with a throwing wheel and other equipment for use. It nestles in the middle of our meadow, with a simple larch bridge for access and a self-seeded weeping willow tree to screen its doors.
