Description

What feels like thousands of limericks and illustrations by Edward Lear, most of which are pretty bad—the last lines are just repeating the first! Postmodern and quite lame, or just quite lame? The typesetting, design and illustrations are great however.

Interestingly this is published by Warne who also published Beatrix Potter, Kate Greenaway and Walter Crane.

There is an endorsment from John Ruskin which proclaims Lear at the top of his list of 100 great authors

The limricks were created to entertain the children of the Earl of Derby at Knowsley, not intended for publication
