Since starting to garden here in 2002, we have introduced over 450 plant species, many of which we sought out because they originate in comparable climates and conditions (i.e. damp, windy and up a mountain) across the world. Many have been grown from seed, given by friends or arrived by chance. We have also introduced, propagated and encouraged countless native British plant species to grow here, enhancing the beauty and biodiversity of Lawson Park.
This database catalogues as many of our plant introductions and native discoveries as possible, with photographs taken by Karen Guthrie across two decades. You'll also find brief descriptions, notes on maintenance and - when we recorded it - where the plants or seeds were obtained from.
Planting dates are often included to indicate which plants have proved the most durable here.
It is - like any garden - a work in progress.
